Apologies for Absence

Election of New Committee

  1. To find a new member to take up the role of the Branch Ringing Master, discussion was entered and proposals were thrown around as it were but there were no takers. It was asked by myself whether there were 2 members that would like to take up a joint role and there were no takers for this idea either. It was decided by Michael Day that he would step down as Chairman, in order for Tom Longridge to take up the role as Branch Chairman and for Michael Day to take up the role of Branch Ringing Master, for a swap to take place. Formally, Michael stood down, I temporarily took the chair and asked the members if there were any proposals for Chairman, Rob Perry proposed Tom, which was seconded by Martin Pearson. Tom took the chair. The Chairman then asked if there were any proposals for Branch Ringing Master, Michael was proposed by Rebecca Day, this was then seconded by Jenny Burton. Michael is now Branch Ringing Master.
  2. To find a new Education Officer, as Matthew Skues has stood down. Nicki Williams was proposed by Rob Perry and was seconded by Barry Quinton. Nicki is now the Branch Education Officer.
  3. Members were asked if they were happy with the Branch Secretary position being held by myself. It was proposed by Martin Pearson that I was to stay as Branch Secretary and was seconded by Rob Perry. I, Sophie Didcott, remain as Branch Secretary.
  4. Members were asked if they were happy for Tom to remain as the General Committee Representative, Rob Perry proposed Tom and this was seconded by Jenny Burton. Tom remains as General Committee Representative.

5th Monday Practice

It was proposed by Will Willans to myself before the meeting by email to bring up into discussion what is happening with the 5th Monday practice. It is becoming less and less attended and Will was wondering whether members could collectively think of new ideas of how to up the attendance or whether it would be decided that the 5th Monday practice at the abbey had run its course? Michael began a discussion about whether the venue should be changed rather than it being at the Abbey every time, Jenny Burton agreed. It was also discussed as to whether Nicki, as the new Education Officer could think of a way of making the 5th Practice more of a training event. It was left in the hands of Nicki to mull over.

Striking Competition 2012

Tom offered up whether members were happy with the time of year that the 2011 competition was held (April),this was agreed by the majority and a date was pulled from the air Saturday 17th March 2012. Dunkerton was offered up by Barry Quinton as a potential venue, as was Bath Abbey by Tom. Due to issues with no toilet facilities at Dunkerton and no parking and the logistics at Bath Abbey, It was proposed by Rob Perry that the Striking Competition will be held at Marksbury, with the teas being done by the ringers of Corston, this was seconded by Jane Jones.

Any Other Business

It was brought up by Rob Perry at how annoyed he was that the Bath Branch did not enter a team into the 2011 Annual 8-Ball Striking Competition. He re-iterated that the event was not highlighted by the committee and there should have been more of an effort to get the members involved and to enter a team even if it was done last minute. Tom apologised to Rob Perry for this and said it was his fault, he had been away did not emphasize the event enough and said it will not happen next year.

The meeting was closed by Tom Longridge and again the members were thanked for such a good turn out, the Newton ringers were thanked for a lovely tea. Eric Webster asked for the members to applaud the committee for their hard work.
