Bath Branch Ringing

Welcome to the Bath Branch Ringers site. This site is intended to provide a central place for publicising branch activities and news for the ringers in the Bath Branch of the Bath & Wells Diocesan Association of Change Ringers.

As well as the website, we'd like to keep you informed of events via the branch e-mailing list. This list will be used to communicate branch events as well as requests from towers for ringers. Please visit the mailing list page to subscribe. Also, if you have any news that you would like to publish on this site, please let us know. We aim to keep this site regularly updated for members of the branch and visitors to find out about ringing in the area.

Inter-tower Skittles and Quarterly Meeting

The Inter-tower Branch Skittles Match (preceeded by a brief quarterly meeting) is taking place on Saturday 1st March at 7pm. This year we are holding it at the Fox and Badger in Wellow. Everyone is welcome to compete for the shield, which is currently held by Keynsham. The match is always very informal, so if you don't think you have enough for a team, don't worry something can always be sorted out on the night!

If you would like to come then please let myself or Rebecca Day know ASAP. The pub can provide "Skittles Suppers" -- consisting of sausages, chips, bread and cheese -- for at £3.50 anybody who would like one. (Please note the pub will not be able to offer their normal food menu as they cannot cater for large groups all at once.)

Celebrating the Royal Wedding Anniversary

On Tuesday 20th November, ringers from the Bath Branch are ringing a peal at Bath Abbey to mark the diamond wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. They will be ringing the same peal of 5057 Grandsire Caters that was rung 60 years ago by the Abbey band of the time.

Update: Unfortunately the peal was lost after an hour. We did, however, manage to get a quarter peal. We also attacted a lot of publicity from local TV, radio and paper!

As part of the fundraising for the bells at St Stephen's, Lansdown, Dave Kelly is organising an open day in the Bath Branch. This includes the chance to have a go on the new ring and also Christchurch, Bath which are not available for ringing very often.Click here for more information.

Bath Branch AGM

On behalf of the committee, I would like to announce that the Bath Branch AGM will be held on October 20th 2007 in Bath. The event will commence with ringing at the Abbey from 15:30 – 16:30 for evensong (doors will be locked at 15:40) and we would be particularly grateful for your assistance with this since a number of the local team will be away. The Abbey ringing may be followed by a further ringing at St Mikes whilst the crypt is set up for tea, but this will be largely dependent on whether the Bath Philharmonia are using the church, (not known at present), and how keen people are to ring again. The tea and meeting itself will commence at approximately 17:30 in St Michael's Crypt. I know that this is a slightly later format from previous years, but the crypt is in use during the afternoon. Please come!Click here for more information.

Robert and Sue Bates

It is with great sadness that I have to report to you that Robert and Sue Bates, ringers at Bathford, were killed in a motorcycle accident whilst on holiday in Spain on the 3rd September.

Although Robert and Sue had not been in the area long, they were enthusiastic ringers and were eager to expand the ringing at Bathford. They will be a great loss to the branch and, I'm sure, to the ringers at Bathford.

The funeral will be held at Malvern Priory Church (Church Street, Great Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 2AY) at 12pm on Wednesday (19th September). Robert's brother has indicated that the church is very large so all are welcome. The family has requested family flowers only but donations can be made to the NSPCC and Leukaemia Research, c/o Holland Funeral Service, 71 Barnard Green Road, Malvern. Telephone: 01684 575343.

My apologies for the short notice, but I have only just managed to find out the funeral arrangements.

Tower Information & Photos

You will see that each tower in the branch (yes; even the unringable ones!) have a page of information and a photo. However, it is currently very minimal and not very interesting! If you would be prepared to write a couple of paragraphs (or more) about your tower, or have some interesting photos, I'd love to put it on the site.Click here for more information.
